Impactor of the Year - 2018
James Dein is a man who embodies the ideals of Impactor of the Year. In addition to working at Impact Companies, James runs his own second chance program and halfway house for individuals suffering from drug and alcohol addiction. Having overcome his own addiction, James spends his free time giving back by volunteering and helping others struggling with these same issues. “James refuses to give up on us,” stated one of the program graduates James has helped…no matter how many times we fall, he is always there to pick us back up. “Under that rough exterior, is a heart of gold” he said.
Bill Mulligan was fortunate enough to go and visit the recovery/half way home where James devotes his life to helping others. He was able to meet with current program attendees as well as successful graduates. Every one of them could not say enough remarkable things about how James had helped them; several stated they would not be here today if it weren’t for James’ support and assistance. This fact was never as strongly illustrated as it was that very night. During Bill’s visit, James was checking on a new admittee to the program and suddenly came and had to ask everyone to leave…the new admittee had OD’d on heroin in the next room. James was able to attend to this young man until the paramedics arrived and were able to rush him to the hospital. After witnessing this event, Bill shared that he had no doubt that James saved that young man’s life that night.
James is not paid for any of his time working with these programs – every bit of it is volunteered. After watching James work with these individuals, Bill remarked that he could see how much James actually loves and cares for all the people he is helping…he gives them his all without asking for anything for himself. In fact, when Bill first approached James to inform him that he was nominating him for this award, James politely declined. He seeks no recognition for what he does and only accepted the award after being convinced that his actions are a lesson to us all – an example of how we can all Impact the lives of those around us. We are sure you will agree that for our 2018 Impactor of the Year award, the choice was crystal clear. Thank you James for everything you do!!!

Refuge for Women Corporate Sponsor of the Year 2018 Award
On Saturday, February 23x 2019 the Impact Companies received an award for being the Corporate Sponsor of the Year from Refuge for Women. The award is to recognize the people from Impact Companies that volunteer regularly to support the Refuge: Bob Motis, Kim Rajk, Kellie Diene, Shannon O'Boyle, and Sandy Minge.
The Refuge helps women escape from the sex industry that is rampant here in Las Vegas. At the banquet a young lady who had a terrible childhood told her story about her years of addiction to drugs and being abused and how her time at Refuge has given her a whole new life. "I would literally be dead today if it wasn't for Refuge." she told us.
Our Impact volunteers spend time assisting women at the home here in Las Vegas. They also support board meetings and fund-raising activities. Bob Motis has served as the chairman of the board for several years committing many hours each month.
Kudos to all who have made a giant difference in helping rescue women from this dark side of Las Vegas. Refuge for Women is Impact Companies 2019 Charity of the Year. Our first event of the year was a poker tournament and silent raffle held on March 22nd at the Impact offices. All the proceeds from the event was donated to Refuge for Women, Las Vegas.
10,000 Impacts - 2018
Each year Impact Companies sets out to IMPACT our communities in the easiest way possible by volunteering it's also the most rewarding. We set a goal of 10,000 hours of volunteering in which our employees, their friends and family take on through planned company events, church or personal opportunities. In 2018 Impact Companies had a total of 10,462 hours from 36 people from Impact and we thank our awesome volunteers. Listed below are some of the events our volunteers participated in.
This year’s Ecuador gang experienced a phenomenal volunteering opportunity for a week this July…helping, sharing their love and time, bringing gifts of joy and improving the living conditions of an entire village. A total of 11 travelers were able to participate this July - every one of them attesting to the life changing quality this kind of experience can bring.
Although their work was hard and long, every day seemed to be more rewarding than the last. The group’s first project was to build a new kitchen in Las Lagunas. The new kitchen was three times the size of the previous room and was a critical upgrade to village life. Our group worked so quickly in getting the walls up, they took on the additional challenge of building a trench/border around a new multi-sport soccer volleyball field. They labored with pick axes and shovels for several days digging a 60-foot trench around the field, 20 inches deep. While they were at it, they also dug a trench that will house the PVC pipe bringing water from a new cistern to the kitchen and bathrooms.
Wednesday was a “Fun Day” for all while our volunteers played with the kids at a hotel pool in the city of Manta. The day turned out a bit overcast but everyone got in the pool nevertheless. There were a lot of splashes and fun experiences all around on this day.
Thursday’s activities may have been the most rewarding of all when the group visited nine homes of our sponsored children. Their families warmly welcomed us and the children were ecstatic with all the gifts and love shared from their sponsors in the States. In one case, the parents were so excited to have us visit that they invited aunts, uncles and cousins to meet us.
The group ended the trip on a high note by visiting the moms and babies in the Infant Survival initiative that Impact sponsors in Las Lagunas. The Initiative provides pre-natal and post-natal medical care, education, spiritual guidance and socialization for young mothers and pregnant women. The newborns have access to medical services, immunizations and nutrition. Before leaving on Friday, our group was blessed when the children came to the project, sang us a song, and performed a dance routine. They also shared cake and gifts with us.
